The section of the Charles River walkway closest to the Zakim Bridge is where this image was taken. We feel it epitomizes what the Zakim Bridge is all about from both aesthetic and engineering viewpoints. The cables just seem effortlessly to emanate in various patterns from the inverted Y-shaped tower. Yet they look so delicate, you wonder how they support millions of tons of weight. It was shot 50 minutes after sunset when the light from the streetlamps lit the cables against a dramatic, black sky. Here a black sky does work due to the bridge lighting.
