GENERAL QUESTIONS
1. Do I need a webpage to upload my pictures?
No, you can upload pictures right from your computer. The links in our directory at this time point to web pages with pictures on them. Now, you will be able to upload your own pictures directly onto our site. For example, if you upload pictures of France, a thumbnail of one of your pictures will appear on our France directory page, which will lead to thumbnail pages of all of your pictures of France.
2. I would like to use a picture I found in your directory. How can I do that?
If a member’s email address appears in their profile, you can contact them and ask about the availability of the specific picture you are interested in.
3. Can anybody leave comments on my pictures?
At this time there is no capability for anyone to leave comments on pictures. This may change in the future.
4. I have a question that is not answered here. Who can I contact?
You can email your question to us at membershelp@picturesofplaces.com. We will get back to you with an answer as soon as possible.
PICTURE UPLOAD QUESTIONS
1. How do I upload pictures?
Use the following steps on your control panel page:
1. Choose an album to add the pictures to.
2. Select a country from the ‘Country’ drop down list.
3. Select a location from the ‘Location’ drop down list. This list will appear as you type, so there may be a slight delay in your location appearing on the list.
4. Enter a name for your picture.
5. Browse for the picture file from your computer.
6. Add a description for your picture (this step is not mandatory).
7. Submit picture.
2. Is there a minimum size for picture uploads?
Each submitted picture should be less than 2MB, and must be at least 800 X 600 pixels, or 500 X 700 pixels.
3. How do I place pictures on a country page, if I have pictures of the country but of no specific city or town?
When you select your country, state or province, the following text will appear: ‘For no specific location in _____ click here’. If you click on this link, your pictures will appear directly at the location you have selected.
4. I have pictures of different places in the same country. Can I place them all together on the country or do I have to create different locations for all of them?
You have different options where to place your pictures. For example, if you have pictures of Paris and Lyons as well as countryside pictures of France, there are several ways you could upload your pictures. You could place the Paris pictures on a Paris page, the Lyons pictures on a Lyons page, and the countryside pictures on the France page. Or, you could place all the pictures on the France page. It depends on how specific you want to be when you upload your pictures.
5. What do I do if my location does not appear in the ‘Location’ drop down list?
Below the location input box is a link that will allow you to create a location that is not on the list. The created location will appear in your profile, but will need to be approved by administration before the page is placed in the directory.
6. I uploaded my picture to the wrong location. Can I change it?
Yes. You can change the location of your picture by using the 'edit' feature found beneath your thumbnails.
7. Can I upload any type of picture to picturesofplaces.com?
Picturesofplaces.com is mainly for pictures of places, features, buildings and other structures found around the world. Travel or vacation pictures that are part of an adventure are acceptable, but it is preferable that places and features are highlighted in the pictures. Pictures that do not meet these criteria for inclusion on picturesofplaces.com may be removed without notice.
